Good Bye

The smell of freshly cut grass
“the suns hot would you boys like a drink?” you ask
“No, but thank you” we say
We’ve got a lot of work we’ll see you later today
“Did you remember to put the drain spouts down”
“Of course Grandpa, we’d never let you down!”
“How are you today?”
In a slow but assuring tone “I’m fine its just this darn leg of mine”
Ha ha ha we laugh
“well its about time we go”
“wait boys before you go, take this money you’re both a big help you know”
With a wave good bye we’re off
But we’ll return in two weeks’ time
As you lay on your death bed you mumble the words
“take care of your Grandpa, and Grandma for me”
“yes sir I will, is there any other requests to be made still?”
“take care of your mom she’s a real good women”
“Yes sir of course, you don’t have to ask twice I’ll do my best no matter the price”
“I love you Grandpa, this is the end”
“I hope to see you again”
